Maria Sharapova was one of the celebrities to attend the Met Gala 2016 compared to the Super Bowl of Fashion held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. The red carpet saw stars of music, cinema, sports and fashion invited by Anne Wintour, international editor of Vogue magazine. Tickets for the event costed US$ 30,000.

“As a lover of art and fashion, I'm very much looking forward to attending my first Met Gala tonight. Juan Carlos Obando created my dress and I love how modern and statuesque it feels”, said the Russian player on her Facebook account.

The annual exhibition of the Costume Institute was entitled "Manus x Machina: Fashion in the Age of the Machine" and several guests explored the theme. Among the famous at the party were Beyonce, wearing a Givenchy; Kate Hudson and Lady Gaga, wearing dresses Atelier Versace; Kate Perry came in Prada; Cindy Crawford in Balmain and representing Brazil, Gisele Bündchen.

Another representative of tennis at the prestigious gala event was the Danish Caroline Wozniacki, recovering from an ankle injury and will lose all the clay court season. Like Sharapova, the former world No. 1 chose a red dress.
