Joao Souza achieves his second trophy in Italy

World No. 118 João Souza won the title of the ATP Challenger in Fano, Italy, event on clay courts with prize money of 42,500 euros. The Brazilian topped the third seed, the Argentine Nicolas Kicker, 6-4 6-7 (12) 6-2, after a battle of 3h12min on Sunday´s final.

This is the second consecutive trophy and the tenth consecutive win for Souza – he also was champion in Cortina, in Italy. It is the ninth ATP Challenger title of his career.

His next appointment is the qualifying of the US Open in New York, in nine days at the hard courts of Flushing Meadows. The tournament is the fourth and final Grand Slam of the year.

"What a battle! I lost a match-point, we went to the third set, but I managed keep my mental strong to return to play well and go out with this title. I am very happy. My confidence returned and I'm achieving good victories again. Now I will rest and train well to go to the US Open, because I know that I will have a very difficult quali," said Souza who is trying to improve his ranking – last year he achieved the top 100 at the No. 69 in April.
