Itajai, fun and culture on the beach

 For the first time Itajai will host a $35,000 Challenger event. The city, located on the north coast of Santa Catarina State has many beautiful beaches (Molhes, Atalaia, Jeremias, Cabeçudas, Morcego or Praia Brava, well-known by surfer, that hosted an event of the Pro Surfer World Qualifying Series in 2007) and a rich natural landscape, with a dense heritage of Portuguese and German immigrants. Itajai has the main port of the state and the second largest in Brazil in terms of the movement of containers.

 Venue. The event is played at the Itamirim Clube de Campo, located in 1106, Rua José Gall. The club has 15 clay courts including three indoor. Matches usually starts at 10 and last until the evening.

 Ticket. Free entrance throughout the whole tournament.

 Transport. 12 km north of Itajai there's the international airport Navegantes. From there the main national airlines (Gol, Tam and Webjet) start daily flights to Porto Alegre and Rio de Janeiro. In the airport passengers can find restaurants, ATMs, car renting companies. The club can be reached by buses and taxes, whose stops are just outside the terminal.

 Food & Drink. Fish recipes are very popular in Itajai. A wide variety of restaurants, with different kind of dishes, can be found at Caminho de Sodegaura, in the Fazenda neighborhood. The heart of the nightlife is the famous Warung Beach Club in Praia Brava on the Avenida José Medeiros Vieira, 350. Along the same beach there are many bars where visitors can drink caipirinha and other local drinks.

 Hotel. The official hotel is the Itajai Tur (133, Rua Alberto Werner, São João) whose fares are about 200 R$ for a double room with wireless internet connection, air conditioned and breakfast. It's just 10 minutes away from the club by car. Other options with comparable price/quality ratio are the Grande Hotel Itajaí (198, Rua Felipe Schmidt) and the Sandri Palace Hotel (1675, Avenida sete de setembro, Fazenda).

 Attractions. The city promotes many theatre plays, ballet shows, readings in the Centre of Popular Culture. Beaches are very attractive to sportsmen like surfers, paragliders or scuba divers. The centre offer different kind of attractions like discos, cinemas, restaurants.

 Inside the club. In the Itamirim Clube de Campo there are two cafeterias (Bar da Sede and Bar do Futebol) opened from Monday to Saturday. Besides, in the Bar Sport you can watch football matches on eight different tv screens. Next to it there's the Bistrô Itamirim, managed by a Cozinha-born chef, where frequently parties and dinners are organized.
